Wiltingflower – Siphon

In advance of the EP they’re currently recording, Brighton-based emo alt-rockers Wiltingflower have released their second single, ‘Siphon.’

The single feels very much like a throwback to the more melodramatic metal bands of the early 2000s - most obviously Evanescence. Its hard-edged guitar riffs and solos blend well with the orchestral and synth embellishments, although these did often feel slightly too understated in the mix.

The melodrama of the song’s central theme of love at its most unstable is particularly well captured by the song’s soaring chorus with its ethereal vocal texture. The song’s hearkening back to the styles of early 2000s gothic emo overall helps to paint an enthralling picture of someone unable to let go of a relationship that is clearly draining their emotional energy.

The strong performances from the band show great promise for any future releases.
