Grrrls Just Wanna Rock Out!
23rd May 2026 – SWG3, The Poetry Club, Glasgow
Unapologetically awesome, The Scratch Scene’s first Grrrls’ Night, at The Poetry Club, was a dynamic showcase of some the finest female-fronted Rock Glasgow has to offer.
Kirsten | Zoned Out – @darkbloomvisuals.live
What. A. Night. Scratch Scene’s first Grrls’ night was a relentless celebration of the power of women in Rock. Every band was female-fronted, putting women firmly in a spotlight that is all too often dominated by males. Representation for females and non-binary people within this space is sadly and infuriatingly lacking; this event was the first step on a long road to righting these wrongs. Let’s get started.
The tone of the night was ferociously set with the sensational Zoned Out. Having seen previous iterations of this band, there is no question the current set-up is the strongest they’ve ever been. The throughline has been lead vocalist Kirsten, who has truly come into her own. She had the crowd in the palm of her hand, owned the stage and did it all with an air of effortless cool. With sensational vocals and a powerful whole band performance, Zoned Out set a high standard for the rest of the evening.
Amelia | Amelia and The Snacks – @darkbloomvisuals.live
How often do you get to see pizzas and a hot dog rocking out? In my personal experience, not very often. However, that is exactly what the incredible Amelia and the Snacks delivered. Amelia is a very accomplished comedian (one of her many talents), but she is also a formidable frontwoman, commanding the stage and delivering incredible vocals throughout her set. Amelia and the Snacks, and their performance as a whole, provided fun and levity, underpinned by creativity, talent and excellent song writing. Delicious.
Sophie | Gloom Cookie – @darkbloomvisuals.live
The penultimate band of the evening, Gloom Cookie, kept the party going with their electricperformance. Lead singer Sophie’s vocals were on point, the perfect balance of delicate and domineering as required, all while making the stage her home. Not to be forgotten, the rest ofthe band were tight, bringing the energy and punch to an overall epic set. (On a personal note, I absolutely LOVED their cover of “My Own Worst Enemy” by Lit, a pop-punk classic. Needless to say, I screamed along to every word!).
Fen | Start From Scratch – @darkbloomvisuals.live
Transcendent. Revolutionary. The pinnacle of music, of life… this is but a small fraction of the praise I could sing about the final band of the night: Start From Scratch. Okay, in the interest of full disclosure, I should say I am a part of that band… in all seriousness though, I don’t feel it would be right for me to comment on my own band; I do, however, have another angle on our experience of the event coming soon, so watch this space…
Unquestionably, our first Grrls’ night was a huge success! The bands were phenomenal, the crowd was rocking and, most importantly, we got the chance to showcase immensely talentedwomen in Rock. It seems only right to also say a massive thank you to everyone for coming along and showing their support. If you were unable to make our first Grrls’ Night, fear not! Our next event will be happening very soon. And if it is anything like the last one (which it will be), you won’t want to miss it!
